One Pillar Pagoda - Chua Môt Côt

The dream pagoda.

The Chua Môt Côt or pagoda is one of the most famous Buddhist temples in Hanoi. Located near the Hô Chi Min mausoleum, the pagoda is architecturally unusual.
The first stone of this building was laid in 1049 in the reign of King Ly Thai Tong of the Ly Dynasty.
According to the legend, the King had a dream of the Goddess Quan Am seated on a lotus leading him to a building similar to Chua Môt Côt. When he awoke and recounted his dream, a monk advised the King to build his dream pagoda surmounted by a lotus as a tribute to Quan Am.
This temple is one of the most remarkable landmarks of Hanoi city.
